  1. An abstract… no. I’m guessing it’s a sample excerpt, but I’d be interested to know what it really is.

    I learned at Write! Canada that synopsis is not a synonym for summary – at least for fiction, it’s more important to give the feel of the story, “what it’s about,” using fiction techniques to draw the reader in, than to give a journalistic-style account of “what happens”.

    An abstract is a summary of key points in academic research and is a single paragraph which is double spaced and no more than 120 words. From Purdue University through an online teaching source.
