Seize the Day!
In a gathering of family or friends or even strangers, you will hear many philosophies about life. Some people will be forward thinkers while others speak out of regret, wishing they’d done things differently.
We all have decisions and choices to make about what to do. Some are easier, some harder. Robert Frost must have reflected on those decisions too. In the last stanza of his poem,The Road Not Taken, he wrote:
…Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

This esteemed poet was merely sharing what he knew to be true, something he had in common with each of us.
When I was in a rush, I was reminded to “live one day at a time” —which sometimes translated to “one hour at a time” —or “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” Sometimes it was “Stop and smell the roses.” Which really all meant, “Slow down and enjoy life.” I confess to using the some of those lines. Maybe not all the lines I heard, but the essence of enjoying life.
True, there have been times, when challenges made life difficult. While going through a hard time, a certain friend would say, ” This too will pass.” Still, in the middle of the trouble, there have been moments of joy, words of thankfulness and praise. Thankfulness to God who loves me no matter how often I mess up, praise for creation and the gifts we’ve been given, thankfulness for friends and their love, for having them close by in tears as well as in joy.
Listen to Carolyn Arend’s song, Seize the Day.
Blessings to you on this day. May it be one of joy and thankfulness.
