Québec City
After a fortifying breakfast, and additional coffee for some members of our family, we started out walking to the ferry. It took about fifteen to twenty minutes from our Air Bnb, much of it downhill. We got our tickets and didn’t have long to wait.

Ahead of us stood the massive Chateau Frontenac. We would get a tour of that building on our next day in Quebec City.
As we got off the ferry, we had only a short walk into the historic city, and it would be a lot of uphill climbs.
And downhill too when we retraced our route.

Lots of stairs. We declined the option of the elevator that would take us straight up the side of the wall of the old city. Besides, it would have been expensive for all eight of us. We got to see more this way, including the shops along the way, and we certainly got our exercise.
We browsed in shops, checked out souvenirs and sweatshirts, hoodies and all kinds of little things. The kids got matching hoodies, and I got a T-shirt, and eventually a hoodie too, but beyond that, we’d do other souvenirs the last day. We did get to see plenty of history and architecture.

Further into the city, we walked inside an old church that had been there for many many years, I didn’t get the date, but the pews were little box spaces where a family could sit together, Indeed families often had their own box. Organ music played and we could light candles for someone. I was interested in the stained glass windows and the stories those pictures told.

Along the way we looked up the Literary and Historical Society library that author Louise Penny writes about in her mysteries, particularly the one Bury Your Dead. The library wasn’t open for tours that day but our next day there, on Wednesday, we could go in.

At the old fort inside the city, there was opportunity for kids and adults alike to dress up in period costumes and get a picture taken with our own cameras.

Dressed in the finery of the times

The kids enjoyed the historic dress-up costumes.

We stand strong!

They had to pose on the cannons

Stairs up to Chateau Frontenac, and then of course, we go back down again. Plenty more to see. Will we get to it all? We’ll have to be choosy.

Plenty of stairs uphill and down

This Mexican guy did tricks in one area around the Chateau and a musician in another
And at some point we had to find a place to eat lunch. We stopped in at a pub and had some food.

Not far from the old fort inside the city stood this impressive building with spouting fountains outside. The kids had some fun jumping the fountains and got wet. Not such a bad thing when it’s warm but a little chilly when there’s a breeze.

At one point we decided it was time to head for the ferry for the trip back to the airbnb. This time the climb back would be uphill. We’d be back to the city again on Wednesday to see more.
We had a good supper again, all efforts combined and relaxed in the evening, planning for the next day, a trip to the national park where we’d hike a particular trail. Our hosts had the trip well organized for variety.
